Kurgan Motorsports has been tapped by Ford racing Performance Parts to partake in a Coyote 5.0 swap as part of the Carlisle All-Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA, June 3-5, 2011.

Kurgan Motorsports will be drive a running Fox-body Mustang with stock powertrain into the Carlisle fairgrounds and over the course of the weekend complete a Coyote 5.0 swap using Ford Racing's crate engine (M-6007-M50) and wiring installation kit (M-6017-A504V). Once the vehicle is done it will be required to run and drive a specified distance to consider the swap complete.

The promotion will showcase how easy it can be to swap a late model Mustang powertrain into an earlier chassis and feature numerous aftermarket parts from industry partners that are geared towards easy installation of the Coyote 5.0.
The crowd is encouraged to get involved by submitting estimates as to how long the swap will take. The entrant who guessed closest to the actual time will be given a gift certificate for Ford Racing performance parts. Exact amount is TBD with other sponsors potentially pitching in.

Bob Kurgan Runs Fastest Pass in NMRA Drag Radial History at Bradenton

Vortech supercharged drag racers and car show enthusiasts alike roll into Bradenton Motorsports Park 43 deep to kickoff the 2010 NMRA race/ show season and we were there to take in all of the record breaking action.
BF Goodrich Drag Radial has become one of the hottest heads up classes the NMRA has to offer. If you have been paying any attention at all to this street tire class, there’s no doubt you’ve heard of Byron, IL resident Bob “The Flyin Hawaiian” Kurgan. Bob is a staple at various national and regional drag racing events and NMRA Drag Radial is no different. Known as one of the quickest and fastest racers in the class, Bob showed up in Bradenton to send a message to his competitors for the 2010 season. His Kurgan Motorsports/Vortech Superchargers V24-Xi backed ’86 Mustang was NOT here to play. Choosing to sit out for all of the pre-qualifying test sessions offered to racers at NMRA events, Bob rolled his 4 eyed Fox out of the trailer just prior to Friday afternoon’s 1st round of qualifying. Competing with 8 other very capable supercharged and turbocharged entries for the coveted #1 position, Bob fired the shot that would set the tone for the remainder of the 1st and 2nd rounds of qualifying with a record setting 7.947et. Not only was that run good enough for the #1 position, it also served as the quickest pass in the history of the class. Things would stay that way until the final session of qualifying were Bob was edged out of the #1 spot by the defending 2009 class champion, Jason Lee who tripped the lights at the stripe only .006 seconds quicker.

Racing with a combination that hadn’t been refreshed since the beginning of the 2009 season proved to be problematic for Bob as the weekend drew longer. In an attempt regain his #1 qualifying position, Bob’s motor suffered a minor (non supercharger related) mechanical set back during Saturday’s final qualifying session. Bob would fix the problem and be ready for Sunday’s elimination rounds where he would be paired up with the turbo modular powered beast of Steven Biggs in the 1st round.

Bob threw a little tune up at the computer to try to improve on his 7.94 pass and hopefully get around a tough 1st round competitor. Unfortunately, there wasn’t as much starting line there as the previous days and Bob struck the tire right from the hit. He recovered quickly and was making quick work w/ the remaining length of track to run down Biggs. It looked as if Bob would get around him just before the finish line and claim the round but…his gremlin from the previous pass presented itself again and put an end to the weekend that started off so promising for Bob and Team Vortech.
Look for Bob to swap the BFG Drag Radials on his Vortech powered hatch for some 28xT10.5 slicks and return to Bradenton Motorsports Park Mar 18-22 to hopefully set some new records and claim his 1st win of the season in the NMCA’s Vortech Superchargers sponsored Extreme Street class. Triple Victory for Bob Kurgan in Joliet

July 17-19 2009

Bob "The Flyin Hawaiian" Kurgan wins 2 events AND the NMRA/NMCA Superbowl Shootout in NMCA Vortech Superchargers Xtreme Street!!!

Thats right. You read correctly. 3 wins in 1 weekend. Finishing 3rd in points in '08 as the #1 supercharged car in the class w/ his V24-Xi blown 4 eyed Fox hatchback, Kurgan is back for '09 doing what he does best. WINNING.

After qualifying #3 behind 2 nitrous powered cars at the 2009 season opener in Bradenton, Fl... Bob disposed of fellow Team Vortech racer Bart Tobener and 2 other nitrous powered entries on his way to his 1st Extreme St final of the season. Unfortunately, that race never happened because Mother Nature had other plans for us that afternoon. The final was set to be run at the next event in Bowling Green, Ky but as it turned out, good old Mother Nature had decided she was going to travel w/ the series and the BG race was cancelled altogether due to rain.


Maple Grove, PA would be the next stop on the tour but Bob was unable to attend that event since he was preparing for the grand opening of his new Kurgan Motorsports performance and dyno shop in his home town of Byron, IL.

That brings us to the Superbowl of Street Legal Drag Racing In Joliet, IL. With both Bob and competitor, nitrous racer Tim Hendricks present, the stage was finally set to complete the final round from the season opener in Fl.

The final would be run in conjunction with the 2nd round of qualifying for the Superbowl event and indeed it was. When the win light came on, it showed that Bob's 8.13 had bested Hendricks 8.23 and crowned Bob for the event win that he had to wait 4 months to claim. That same 8.13 also secured Bob the #3 (there's that #3 again!) qualified spot that he would hang onto for the remainder of qualifying and would dictate his ladder placement for the Superbowl Event that lay ahead.

Facing a field of 17 Xtreme Street competitors meant that in order to win this event Bob was going to have to be on his "A" game and ready to run some numbers. A string of low 8 second passes scored him wins in the 1st 3 of 5 rounds during eliminations and due to the odd number of cars in the field, Bob snatched up a 4th round "bye" into in the final where he would be facing the 2009 season points leader, Bill Trovato. Staged and ready to go Bob and Bill left with identical .042 & .043 reaction times respectively and with what could very well be the closest race in NMCA drag racing history, the boards lit up with matching 8.163 ETs and the win going to The Flyin Hawaiian with a .0018 margin of victory!!! That's roughly 5.5"!!!

Win #2 in the bag and the only thing left to take would the be the coveted NMCA v. NMRA Superbowl Shootout where he would be pitted against the quickest NMRA Drag Radial car of the same event. Needless to say as the headline reads... Bob won that race too.
